Matera Budget: Slightly more expensive than standard Southern Italy but definitely one of the cheaper locations in central Europe

In the south of Italy, a few hours from the city of Bari, lies Matera. Similar to Coppadocia in Turkey, the city surrounds mountains with caves skattered though which were the homes of the original occupants. Further through the mountains some people still live in these caves. however, unlike Coppadocia, the mountains are surrounded by a magnificent ancient city built into the mountainside itself.
- Explore the ancient city and it's winding stone streets
- Climb down the city side of the mountain and back up the other side to the caves, crossing the river in between
